Ana Maria Giraldo
Ana Maria's love for weaving began when she was a young girl attending catholic school. She found herself dedicating her time to this when she attended college in Mexico, where she devoted herself to floor loom weaving. From preparing the loom to putting the finishing touches on the hand woven cloth, she learned the in and outs of the art. After Mexico, Ana returned to Colombia ready to learn more. After travelling throughout the country for a few years and deepening her knowledge, she decided to join the University of Antioquia, where she took weaving technique courses. Her profound passion and dedication for the art made her workshop in Medellin, El Telar de Ana a reality in 1988. She has sin re-located to Tabio Cundinamarca, not only working but teaching others the techniques and the undeniable experiences that surround her art. Ana has taught at organizations like the Jeymar Foundation and has been a professor at the University Externado de Colombia. Ana’s job is devoted to the dying of fibers with natural dyes such as Cochinilla, the integration of all kinds of different fibers like alpaca, cotton, wools, and leather and the finishing of products with trims and fingers of all other kinds of weaving techniques, i.e., crocheting and knitting; the latter resulting in the creation of her unique and sophisticated pieces. Hence, her passion and love for weaving has become her beloved full time venture.
